On 24 April, Ukraine conducted its 73rd prisoner exchange. Military personnel returned home, including young defenders and the wounded, who had been held mostly in Chechnya.
Features of the 73rd exchange
The Coordination Centre reported that this time they managed to return from captivity military personnel born in the 2000s. There are also defenders with injuries among those released.
The exchange included soldiers, sergeants and several officers. Two of the soldiers are celebrating their birthdays today on the outside.
Conditions of detention and violations
Most of those released were illegally detained on the territory of Chechnya. Criminal cases were fabricated against some of them.
These actions are a violation of the Geneva Conventions, the headquarters stressed. The Ukrainian side is recording these facts for international courts.
Age of released defenders
The youngest returned defender is 24 years old. He was captured in 2023 in the Donetsk sector.
The oldest defender who was released is 60 years old. All of them are already on their native land.
