President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a number of statements on international alliances, the situation at the frontline and defence priorities. The Head of State stressed that Ukraine remains a fortress of Europe and is not looking for alternatives to the EU.

An alliance with Britain, Turkey and Norway

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that an alliance of Ukraine, Britain, Turkey and Norway would make the European Union the strongest association in the world. According to him, such an alliance could significantly strengthen the EU's position in the international arena.

At the same time, he stressed that Ukraine is not looking for an alternative to EU membership. The course towards European integration remains an unchanged strategic priority of the state.

Ukraine's defence role

Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine is now a fortification of Europe. He noted that the country plays a key role in ensuring the security of the European continent in the face of ongoing aggression.

The President also noted the need to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities, particularly in the area of missile defence.

The situation in Donbas

According to Zelensky, withdrawal from the Luhansk and Donetsk regions would mean a strategic loss for Ukraine. Maintaining positions in the east of the country has been identified as a matter of principle for the state.

The President stressed that the current frontline remains the key to further diplomatic efforts.

Arms and missile defence

Zelensky said that for missile production Ukraine is ready to negotiate, buy, exchange, and sometimes even blackmail. This, he said, is necessary to ensure the country's effective defence.

He also stressed the need to develop its own ballistic missile defence system within a year to reduce dependence on Western systems, including Patriot.

Possible format for ending the war

The President believes that the most realistic format for ending the war is to fix positions on the current frontline with a further transition to a diplomatic settlement.

According to him, diplomacy should be the next step after the situation on the frontline is stabilised.
