According to the investigation, a local drug addict was recruited after she had been searching on Telegram for «quick» ways to earn money «for a fix». The FSB then instructed her to gather intelligence near a military base against which Russia was preparing a combined strike.
The flat near the unit was used as an observation post
To plan the attack, the woman rented a flat near the military base. She set up a phone camera in the flat’s window, which faced the target, and used it to monitor the site.
The SBU detained her at her rented flat whilst she was taking photographs and filming a defence facility. During a search, law enforcement officers seized a smartphone which she had been using to gather intelligence and maintain contact with her FSB handler.
What information did the inspector gather, and who investigated the case?
According to the SBU, the agent recorded the arrival times of military equipment, its maintenance schedule, refuelling points and subsequent route. She also attempted to identify the time and location of the largest concentration of personnel in order to launch a strike in real time.
The court found her guilty of Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation was carried out by SBU officers in the Khmelnytskyi region in conjunction with the National Police, under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
