On 11 October, against the backdrop of a Russian attack involving jet-powered drones, powerful explosions were heard in Kyiv, following which reports began to emerge of widespread power cuts. According to the latest reports, parts of the city centre, as well as the districts of Vidradnyi, Obolon, Podil, Shulyavka, Troieshchyna, Poznyaky and other residential areas, were left without power. There are also reports of disruptions to the water supply and power cuts affecting large shopping centres.

Following the explosions in Kyiv, power and water supplies began to be cut off
During the Russian air strike on 11 October, a series of explosions rocked the capital. According to local news sources, following one of the powerful explosions, power cuts began in various parts of the city.
Reports of power cuts are coming in from the centre of Kyiv, Vidradnyi, Obolon, Podil, Shulyavka, Troieshchyna, Poznyaky and other districts of the capital. There are also reports of power cuts affecting the lighting in large shopping centres. Some residential buildings have experienced problems with their water supply.
There is currently no official information regarding the number of customers left without power or the specific damage to the energy infrastructure caused by this attack.
Kyiv is under attack from Russian jet-powered drones
On 11 October, Russian forces deployed a large number of attack drones against Ukraine, including jet-powered variants.
According to the Air Force, on the night of 11 October, Russian forces deployed 116 Shahed-type attack UAVs, 95 of which were jet-powered. As of 08:30, air defence forces had shot down or neutralised 94 drones, including 74 jet-powered ones.
Throughout the day, there were also reports of jet drones flying over various areas of Kyiv, notably in the direction of Osokorky, Pechersk, Solomyanka, Pochayna and Podil.
There may be disruptions to public transport services
Following reports of widespread power cuts, residents of Kyiv are advised to be aware of possible changes to the operation of ground-based electric transport. During previous power cuts in the capital, temporary suspensions of services on certain trolleybus and tram routes have already been recorded.

The situation in the capital remains tense
Kyiv continues to suffer of Russian attacks, which pose a threat to residents and the city’s infrastructure.
During an air raid alert, residents must remain in shelters. In the event of a power cut, it is recommended that you have fully charged communication devices, torches and a supply of drinking water ready.
