Fighters from the «Timur Special Unit» of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence neutralised two groups of Russian special forces and took one Russian serviceman prisoner. The Main Intelligence Directorate’s press service reported on the counter-sabotage operation on 11 October. According to intelligence reports, the Russians belonged to the 10th Separate Guards Special Purpose Brigade of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, servicemen from the brigade took part in the wars against Georgia and Ukraine, as well as in the Russian military campaign in Syria. Members of this unit were documented in the occupied Ukrainian territories in 2014–2015.

Separately, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) has published the overall results of the «Timur Special Forces Unit’s» operations in the Zaporizhzhia sector for the entire duration of the operation. According to the agency, Russian forces suffered 448 irreplaceable casualties, whilst 85 Russian servicemen were taken prisoner.

These statistics do not merely summarise the ambush described above. The Main Intelligence Directorate stated that the immediate outcome of the operation was the interception of two special forces units and the capture of one Russian serviceman.
