Study until July and flexible holidays: the Ministry of Education and Science explains new rules

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has announced that the 2025/2026 school year will officially run until the end of June, but schools may adjust the schedule of classes and holidays depending on the circumstances.

The Ministry of Education and Science noted that educational institutions have the right to hold classes in June if the programme could not be fully completed in winter due to blackouts or other disruptions.

Each school makes the final decision on whether to extend the study period independently.

What will happen to the holidays

Possible changes also apply to rest periods.

In particular:

• if the winter holidays lasted longer due to power outages,

• schools may shorten or cancel spring breaks,

• to catch up on the material you've missed.

How the training will be conducted during the interruption

In the event of a difficult energy situation, the educational process will be organised as flexibly as possible.

The principle is «if there is light, we study». Teachers upload assignments to online platforms, and students complete them at a convenient time when they have access to electricity and the Internet.
