The arson attack on the generator and the explosives: details of the crime

The other day, to Kyiv Police A report was received regarding arson at a generator on the premises of a higher education institution. During an inspection of the scene, bomb disposal experts from the police headquarters discovered a homemade explosive device. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, working alongside criminal analysis specialists and officers from the Solomyanskyi District Police Department in Kyiv, established that two local residents, aged 34 and 35, were involved in the offence. One of them is a member of the armed forces currently on special service status.

Detention at the border

During operational and investigative activities, police officers, together with staff from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the State Border Guard Service (SBGS), detained the suspects at the border with the Republic of Belarus. Both suspects, having changed into military uniforms, were attempting to cross the state border illegally. Law enforcement officers detained the suspects in accordance with the procedure Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

The dealers have been charged with Article 15(2) and Article 258(1) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – attempted commission of a terrorist act. The penalty under this section is up to ten years’ imprisonment.
