Pros. information According to the Security Service of Ukraine, counter-intelligence exposed and detained another Russian military intelligence agent who was adjusting air strikes in Kyiv and Donetsk region. According to the SBU, the agent was a security guard at a Kyiv university who was recruited through his sister, who lives in Russia.

The investigation established that it was the sister who acted as a «liaison» between the agent and Russian military intelligence. Through her, he passed on the coordinates for the game. In particular, in Kyiv, he monitored consequences of Russian attacks, to adjust for repeated shelling of the city. The main targets were thermal power plants and other energy infrastructure facilities in the capital.

How the agent worked

It is documented that the defendant travelled around Kyiv, recorded the locations of the hits, marked their geolocation on Google maps and took photos of the damaged buildings. He passed the collected data to his sister in Russia, who then contacted Russian intelligence.

In addition to the capital's facilities, the detainee also collected information on the location of reserve command posts and combat positions of the Defence Forces in the Donetsk region. To do this, he covertly asked his friends about the Ukrainian military on the eastern front.

Searches, evidence and suspicion

The operation was conducted by the SBU in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office. The offender was detained at his place of residence in Kyiv region. During the search, a smartphone with evidence of cooperation with the enemy was seized from him.

The SBU investigators served the agent a notice of suspicion on ч. 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - high treason committed under martial law. The court imposed on him a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention without bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property under the article.
