Crimea under drone attack
On the night of 21 June 2026, occupied Crimea came under one of the largest drone attacks in recent times. According to preliminary reports, the following targets were hit: in Kerch, including the seaport, the industrial zone and the thermal power station terminal, which is used for the transhipment and storage of petroleum products and liquefied gas.
Explosions were heard in the area around the Kerch seaport and the city’s industrial facilities. One of the targets of the attack was the TES terminal — a large railway complex used for the transhipment and storage of petroleum products. On the eve of the attack, significant consignments of fuel had been delivered to Crimea, which, according to Russian military bloggers, may have been the reason for the choice of targets.
Implications for the population
Local residents reported that a Russian air defence missile had struck a multi-storey residential block. According to preliminary information, the missile veered off course or lost its target whilst repelling the attack.
In Sevastopol, following a night-time attack, the authorities unexpectedly suspended the sale of petrol to the public using previously issued QR codes. Formally, the reason given was a delay in fuel supplies, but local residents link this to the aftermath of strikes on logistics and fuel facilities on the peninsula. Any disruption to the port infrastructure could have a significant impact on fuel supplies to Crimea.
