On the morning of 21 September, a petrol station on the M-06 Kyiv–Chop international motorway in the suburbs of Zviahel, in the Zhytomyr region, was hit by a Russian strike. A fire broke out following the strike, and the emergency services are currently at the scene. Details regarding possible casualties and the extent of the damage are currently being clarified. Local sources report that the attack was carried out by a drone.

A petrol station on the Kyiv–Chop motorway was hit
The head of the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration reported on the consequences of the attack Vitaliy Bunechko. According to him, this time the Russian strike hit a petrol station on the outskirts of Zvyagel on the motorway M-06 Kyiv – Chop. Clean-up operations are currently underway.
A fire broke out at the petrol station following the impact. The emergency services are working to bring it under control whilst ensuring that traffic flows safely along the international motorway.

As of the first official reports, there was no information on the number of possible casualties. Nor have any final figures been released regarding the extent of the damage to the petrol station itself.
Footage released from the scene shows thick black smoke rising above a building near the motorway. According to local sources, the attack was carried out by a Russian drone. However, in its initial statement, the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration referred to an «enemy strike» without specifying the type of weapon used.
Russia has already carried out repeated attacks on petrol stations in the Zhytomyr region
This is not the first an attack on the petrol station infrastructure in the region recently.
On 12 September, Russian troops attacked several petrol stations in the Zviahel and Korosten districts throughout the day. This resulted in fires breaking out at two petrol stations, in a shop and in vehicles. Two people were killed and one other was injured during that series of attacks in the Zviahel community.
Following today’s strike, the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration also noted that Russian troops are continuing to attack the region’s network of petrol stations.
