On 11 October, Russian forces carried out an air strike on a residential area of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region, using three FAB-250 aerial bombs. As a result of the attack, seven civilians were injured; two high-rise blocks were partially destroyed, and a further seven residential buildings and a shop were damaged. Rescue workers from the State Emergency Service extricated a man from the rubble and rescued a further four residents who were unable to leave their flats unaided.
Russian aerial bombs struck residential high-rise blocks
On Sunday, 11 October, at around 09:45, Russian aircraft attacked a residential area in Sloviansk. The head of the city’s military administration reported on the consequences of the strike Vadym Lyakh. According to him, the occupying forces dropped three FAB-250 aerial bombs on a residential area of the city. Direct hits were recorded on a nine-storey and a five-storey residential block.
As a result of the explosions Two high-rise blocks have been partially destroyed. In total, nine blocks of flats and a shop were damaged. Photographs released by the State Emergency Service show extensive damage to a residential building: collapsed floors, destroyed entrance structures, smashed windows and debris from building materials.
Rescue workers pulled a man from the rubble
Following the air strike, units from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine were working at the site of the destruction.
In one of the damaged buildings, a man found himself trapped beneath collapsed structural elements. Specialists from the State Emergency Service carried out rescue operations, freed the victim from the rubble and transported him to hospital.
Rescue workers evacuated a further four residents from the damaged buildings using hand-held and vehicle-mounted ladders. The residents were unable to leave their flats unaided. In addition, the emergency services extinguished two fires that had broken out in flats as a result of the Russian strike.
In total, five people were rescued during the rescue operation.
Seven injured: what is known about the victims
According to updated information from the Sloviansk City Military Administration, as a result of an air strike on a residential area Seven civilians were injured. Three of the injured were admitted to hospital, whilst four others received outpatient treatment.
According to the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, those injured include five women aged 28, 52, 53, 72 and 76, and two men aged 25 and 80.
The victims were diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries, concussions, lacerations and bruises.
Separately, the city authorities reported that another man, born in 1986, had been injured as a result of a Russian strike on the residential area of Sloviansk.
