The fire destroyed the premises along with the equipment

According to Iryna Snopko, … the strike caused a massive fire. The bird hospital, the henhouse and the quail house were completely burnt down. Along with the buildings, the centre lost the equipment used for the treatment, care and rehabilitation of injured birds, as well as its feed stocks. A video released online shows intense flames engulfing the buildings.

The co-founder’s statement indicates that the following people were in the rooms engulfed by the fire: birds and a cat. The exact number of animals that could not be saved has not yet been disclosed.

Storks, swans, owls and birds of prey were treated here

«Nyushanik Farmstead» specialises in helping wild birds. The centre takes in storks, swans, owls, hawks, kestrels, sea eagles and other birds that have been injured or are unable to survive in the wild on their own. Once treated, those capable of returning to the wild are released, whilst birds with severe, irreversible injuries may remain at the centre.

This is where rescued storks, injured swans and a Red List white-tailed eagle were previously brought. In September, the centre admitted a young white-tailed eagle for treatment, suffering from a head injury, exhaustion and a bacterial infection.

The organisation «Nyushanik Farmstead: Helping Birds» is registered in Voropay, Vyshhorod District, Kyiv Region.

The Kyiv region was attacked by drones and ballistic missiles during the night

A fire broke out in the city centre during a major combined attack Russia’s focus on the capital region.

The Kyiv Regional State Administration reported that, on the night of 7 October, Russian troops used the following against the region attack drones and ballistic missiles. In the Obukhiv district, damage was reported to three production and storage facilities, a lorry and a trailer. Fires broke out at these sites.

The centre will have to rebuild itself virtually from scratch

For «Nyushanik Farm», the loss of the inpatient facility means more than just the destruction of the buildings. It was there that the birds were kept, birds which required constant monitoring, treatment and specialised conditions. Along with the premises, feed and specialised equipment have been lost, so resuming operations will require new facilities.

The centre’s team has promised to provide further updates on the condition of the surviving animals and the centre’s future work.
