On the evening of 22 August, Russian troops launched an attack on the village of Sofiivka in the Kramatorsk community in the Donetsk region. Two people were killed and two others were injured as a result of the shelling. The scale of the damage is significant — 141 private residential properties have been damaged. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine has confirmed the information regarding the fatalities and injuries.

Two people have died in Sofiivka
Russian shelling of the village of Sofiivka Kramatorsk community It took place on the evening of 22 August. The private residential area came under attack.
As a result of the attack Two civilians were killed and two others were injured. The State Emergency Service reported that, during emergency rescue operations, emergency services discovered the body of a deceased person beneath the rubble of one of the private houses.
In order to locate and free the victims, the rescue workers had to manually dismantle around two tonnes of rubble from collapsed structures. Once the search operations had been completed, the emergency rescue operation in this area was concluded.
A Russian strike damaged 141 private homes
The extent of the damage in Sofiivka proved to be considerable. According to updated information, as a result of Russian shelling 141 private residential properties were damaged.
The impact caused the following to occur immediately three separate fires. Firefighters extinguished the fire in a farm building.
In addition, firefighters brought a fire at a private residential property and two private cars under control. Structural elements of another building that had been damaged were also on fire.

Rescue workers suspended their fire-fighting efforts due to the threat of a further strike
Emergency services were unable to fully extinguish all the fires due to the security situation.
It was maintained whilst in operation the threat of renewed Russian shelling, so the firefighters were forced to halt further fire-fighting operations in order not to put their personnel at risk.
Russian troops regularly attack settlements in the Kramatorsk community with aerial bombs, artillery and drones. Due to the constant attacks, the authorities are continuing to evacuate civilians, particularly families with children, from the most dangerous areas of the community.
Following the attack on Sofiivka, the relevant authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the damage. It is currently known that two people have been killed, two injured and over a hundred residential buildings damaged.
