Russia has struck the «Epicentre» in Zaporizhzhia

In the morning 28 August The Russian army has once again attacked Zaporizhzhia. The area around a large shopping centre was hit.

Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Ivan Fedorov reported that as a result of the attack the building was damaged, and one person, according to preliminary reports, requires medical attention. Local sources have identified the premises as a hypermarket belonging to the chain «Epicentre».

A fire broke out on the premises of the shopping centre following the strike. Thick smoke rose above the building. Emergency services are at the scene.

Details regarding the nature of the victim’s injuries and the full extent of the damage are currently being ascertained.

This is not the first blow to Zaporizhzhia’s «Epicentre»

Russia has already attacked one of this chain’s shopping centres in Zaporizhzhia 12 August. Then, following a night-time attack, a large-scale fire broke out, engulfing around 10,000 square metres. The goods inside the damaged part of the complex were almost completely destroyed.

Rescue workers were forced to suspend their fire-fighting efforts at the time due to the threat of further Russian attacks. According to preliminary reports from that night, no one inside the shopping centre was injured.

Thus, the new attack on 28 August became yet another attack by the Russian Federation on a large civilian retail complex in Zaporizhzhia.

Zaporizhzhia is under constant attack

Prior to the attack on the shopping centre, Russian forces had already been striking the city. Earlier that morning, strikes were recorded in an open area, where a fire also broke out. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties or damage on that occasion.

According to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, in the past 24 hours alone, Russian forces have inflicted 861 attacks on 53 settlements in the region. One person was killed in the attacks, a further six were injured, and the authorities received over a hundred reports of damage to homes, cars and infrastructure.

Emergency services are continuing to work at the scene of the latest attack. Details regarding casualties, the extent of the fire and the scale of the damage to «Epicentre» may be updated.
