The strike hit the hospital grounds

Oleksandr Vilkul reported that Russian troops had attacked the central part of the city two «Banderole’s». He later clarified that one of the strikes had landed directly on the grounds of one of the city’s medical facilities.

Initial reports mentioned two casualties. A hospital worker sustained serious injuries — she was taken straight to the operating theatre. Medical staff assessed the condition of the injured man as moderate. Later, Vilkul reported another casualty. The woman was nearby and, according to him, was walking her dog. Her condition is also assessed as moderate; she is currently in the operating theatre. Thus, the number of casualties has risen to three.

Damaged cars and nearby buildings

Footage released after the attack shows damaged cars, shattered windows and the battered structures of buildings near the point of impact. One of the cars is buried under debris and structural fragments, whilst the windows of nearby buildings have been shattered. A column of smoke rose above the area where the strike occurred following the attack.

The extent of the damage to the medical facility itself is still being assessed.

«Banderole» has already been used against Kryvyi Rih

This is not the first time that Russian troops have used this type of ammunition against Kryvyi Rih. At the end of September, the city had already been attacked with «Banderolla» – on that occasion, the strike targeted an industrial facility. Russia has also used such munitions during attacks on other Ukrainian cities.

According to Vilkul, primary healthcare facilities are equipped with backup power supplies, whilst some hospitals have their own boiler rooms and solar power stations. The full extent of the damage caused by this morning’s attack is still being assessed.
