An explosion occurred at the «Engels-2» military airbase in Russia’s Saratov Oblast as a result of an attack by «Behemoth» drones. Footage published by local residents captures the moment of the explosion directly on the airbase grounds.
Following the attack, the residents Engels’ Residents of the airfield and surrounding areas reported hearing loud noises. Information regarding damage to aircraft, ammunition depots, fuel infrastructure or other airfield facilities is currently being verified.
«Engels-2» is one of Russia’s main strategic aviation bases. This airfield is home to Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers, which Russian forces use to launch cruise missiles into Ukrainian territory.
An oil refinery has been attacked in Saratov
At the same time, «Behemoth» drones attacked an oil refinery in Saratov. Following the strike, a large plume of dark smoke rose above the industrial area, which was visible from various parts of the city.
Photographs from the scene show extensive smoke billowing over the site of the plant. The strike hit an oil refinery Saratov Oil Refinery — one of the region’s largest industrial sites.
The plant produces petrol, diesel, bitumen, marine fuel and other petroleum products. The breakdown of processing equipment may affect oil refining volumes, but the actual extent of the damage will only become clear once further photographs or satellite images become available.

Both targets — the airbase in Engels and the oil refinery in Saratov — were attacked by drones. The strikes took place as part of a single operation and were directed against Russia’s military and fuel infrastructure.
The airbase supports the operations of Russia’s strategic air force, whilst the oil refinery produces fuel and other petroleum products. The attack therefore struck at two areas of vital importance to Russia simultaneously — the deployment of long-range aircraft and the operation of the fuel complex.
