Rockets struck the industrial area of Samara
On the night of Friday 14 August, a series of explosions rocked the Russian city of Samara. A fire broke out in the industrial area following the attack, and footage of the blaze was shared by local residents.
Monitoring and OSINT sources report that Ukrainian FP-5 cruise missiles may have been used in the strike «Flamingo». The co-owner of Fire Point also indirectly hinted at the possible use of missiles Denis Stielerman, having published footage of the launch.
However, at the time of publication, there has been no official confirmation of the type of weaponry used. The Russian authorities have also not disclosed the exact location of the strike or the extent of the damage.
«Progress» and «Aviakor» are located nearby»
According to preliminary reports, the strike hit an industrial area where two major enterprises in the Russian aviation and aerospace sectors are located.
The «Progress» Rocket and Space Centre is involved in the development, manufacture and maintenance of launch vehicles. One of the company’s main areas of activity is the production of the «Soyuz-2» family of rockets. The centre also manufactures Earth observation satellites.
The «Aviakor» aircraft factory, which has links to organisations associated with a Russian oligarch, is located nearby Oleg Deripaska. The company specialises in the manufacture, repair, modernisation and maintenance of aircraft.
Initially, Russian social media groups suggested that «Aviakor» might be a potential target. Later, a theory emerged that the main strike might have been directed at the «Progress» centre. There is as yet no confirmed information as to which specific facility sustained damage.
Drones attacked the «Savasleika» airfield»
That same night, explosions were heard near the «Savasleika» military airfield in the Nizhny Novgorod Region of the Russian Federation. Local residents reported a drone attack and at least five or six explosions.
The air base is home to fighter-interceptors MiG-31K, which are capable of carrying X-47M2 «Kinzhal» aeroballistic missiles. Russian forces are using these aircraft to carry out strikes on Ukrainian territory.
There is currently no information regarding any targets hit or damage to aircraft at «Savasleika». The results of both night-time attacks are being clarified.
