Massive attack on Kyiv and the region on 28 September: casualties and destruction

On the night of 27-28 September 2025, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv and Kyiv region using cruise missiles, attack drones (kamikaze drones) and other means of destruction.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the enemy attacked the area with both drones and cruise missiles.

In Kyiv itself, numerous debris falls, fires and destruction were recorded in various districts: Solomianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Holosiivskyi and other districts.

The capital has also reported attacks on medical infrastructure, including a fire in a facility in the Solomianskyi district (the Institute of Cardiology) and casualties among those inside the building.

Damage and infrastructure losses

In Kyiv

  • A five-storey residential building was partially destroyed in Solomyansky district by falling drone debris.Fire in a medical facility - earlier reports of a hit to the Institute of Cardiology.

  • In Sviatoshyno district, drone debris fell on a two-storey non-residential building and in an open area; there were also fires and damage to cars.

  • In Darnytsia district, the debris fell on the territory of a private plot, in Holosiivskyi district - on private houses, in Dniprovskyi district - on the roof of a multi-storey building or other urban development.

  • According to the city authorities, about 20 locations in 6 districts of Kyiv were damaged.

  • The capital also reported traffic blockages on some streets due to the effects of the shelling.

In the Kyiv region

  • At least three people were injured in Fastiv district five employees of the bakery due to shelling of the company's territory.

  • A fire broke out on the company's premises and has been extinguished.

  • The roof of a nine-storey building caught fire in Bila Tserkva, damaging 6 cars.

  • In Bucha district, there were fires in non-residential premises, private houses and damage to cars.

  • In Obukhiv district, debris fell on an outbuilding, causing a fire.


Human losses and casualties

Kyiv

  • According to official reports, the death toll in the capital has increased - currently, the number of four dead.

  • Among the dead may be a child (a 12-year-old girl), whose body was reportedly found under the rubble in Solomianskyi district.

  • At least 10 people were injured, They were hospitalised.

  • Initially, Klitschko's reports mentioned two cases of injuries in Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts, later the number of victims was updated to five, then to ten. Kyiv city officials confirmed that rescuers were unblocking the bodies of the dead from the rubble.

Kyiv region

  • In the Kyiv region, the following are reported seven injured as a result of attacks by drones and missiles.

  • Mykola Kalashnyk, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, said that the consequences of the shelling were recorded in four districts.

  • In Fastiv district itself, five people were injured, all of them employees of the company.

  • In Bila Tserkva, two women (56 and 47 years old) were among the injured on the spot, who received medical treatment for an acute stress reaction.


Government comments and reaction

  • The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, urged residents to stay in shelters and reported on the work of the services that have already arrived at the sites of the fallen debris.

  • The Kyiv City Administration reports more than 20 locations where damage was recorded at night.

  • The authorities of Kyiv region claim that the shelling was aimed at creating panic and damaging civilian infrastructure.

  • It is also emphasised that medical care is provided to victims on the spot or through hospitalisation if necessary.
