The morning of 14 May began for Kyiv with another massive attack by Russian troops. A part of a multi-storey building collapsed in the Darnytsia district, with people trapped under the rubble, killing one person and injuring at least 16.

The scale of destruction in Kyiv

A Russian missile hit the side of a building in the Darnytskyi district of the capital, destroying floors 1 to 9. People are still trapped under the rubble, and rescue services are working at the scene. This was also reported by the mayor of Klitschko. An increased level of alert has been declared in the city, and rescuers continue search and rescue operations.

Fires and damage in different areas

In addition to Darnytskyi district, other parts of Kyiv were also hit. In Dniprovskyi district, UAV debris caused a fire on the roof of a five-storey building, garages and a car. In Holosiivskyi district, debris fell on the roadway, and in Solomianskyi district, a car caught fire in a car park. In Obolonskyi district, shrapnel hit a three-storey car park building, a business centre and an apartment on the 12th floor of a residential building, and a fire was reported in a 25-storey unfinished building. Doctors are providing assistance, and information about the condition of the victims is being updated. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, and people may still be trapped under the rubble.

Why it matters

Missile attack on Kyiv with cluster munitions and Shahedi once again demonstrated the scale of the threat to civilians. The destruction of residential buildings and critical infrastructure, as well as the deaths and injuries of residents of the capital, underscore the need to strengthen air defence and support for the victims. Russia's massive attacks are becoming more and more destructive, and their consequences are tragic for thousands of citizens.
