At the same time, the president gave assurances that Belarus has no intention of getting drawn into the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Briefly about the main points
  • Lukashenko described Belarus as vulnerable to Ukrainian attacks.
  • There are 500 key facilities in the country that could be affected.

  • The President apologised for his harsh comments about the Ukrainian military.

Belarus’s vulnerability in the event of an offensive by Ukrainian forces

Alexander Lukashenko stated that Belarus would be highly vulnerable if Ukrainian troops were to launch an attack on its territory, similar to Russia’s actions. According to him, the country has around 500 strategic life-support facilities, including industrial and logistics sites, which would come under attack. This vulnerability poses serious risks to the country’s stability.

Refusal to take part in the war between Russia and Ukraine

Lukashenko stressed that it was precisely because of these threats Belarus will never be drawn into a military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The President stressed that no action should be expected from Belarus or from him personally military operations in this conflict. This decision will be decisive for the country’s future policy in the region.

Apologies for the harsh words directed at the Ukrainian military

The President also apologised to Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his earlier remarks, which may have offended the Ukrainian military. He acknowledged that he perhaps should not have used such harsh language, given Ukraine’s involvement in the war. At the same time, Lukashenko stressed that he understood the situation and that there would be no military action on Belarus’s part.
