A strong financial shield for Ukraine

On 30 June 2026, Ukraine received its first defence tranche from the European Union, amounting to 3.8 billion euros. This tranche forms part of the new two-year Ukraine Support Loan programme, which aims to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities in the face of ongoing aggression.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko and the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine have officially confirmed the receipt of the funds. «These funds will be channelled towards what is of critical importance to our resilience today,» said the Minister of Finance Sergey Marchenko, emphasising the importance of EU support.

Where will the funds go?

The financial resources received are earmarked for specific purposes. They will be used to:

  • Large-scale production of Ukrainian drones of various models;
  • Strengthening the technological capabilities and expanding the production lines of the domestic defence industry;
  • Ensuring the urgent supply of weapons, ammunition and other equipment to meet the needs of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

This tranche marked a continuation of the launch of the large-scale Ukraine Support Loan facility. It should be recalled that on 25 June 2026, Ukraine received the first tranche of budgetary support amounting to 3.2 billion euros, aimed at ensuring financial stability and social resilience. Consequently, the total amount of funds received by Ukraine under this facility during the last week of June reached 7 billion euros.

What is the Ukraine Support Loan?

Ukraine Support Loan — is a new long-term financial instrument from the European Union, covering the period 2026–2027. The programme’s total budget amounts to up to 90 billion euros, of which Ukraine is set to have access to 45 billion euros in 2026. The defence component will account for the lion’s share — 28.3 billion euros. The loan is financed through EU borrowing on the capital markets and is backed by the European budget. The loan is expected to be repaid through future reparations that the Russian Federation is required to pay for the damage caused to Ukraine.

The launch of this programme enables the Ukrainian Government to plan its military and civilian expenditure in the medium term, ensuring a predictable supply of weapons and uninterrupted funding for drone production.
