The Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces have announced the successful completion of Operation «Polyphemus», which has created a «corridor» for long-range drones to fly deep into Russian territory. The destruction of radar stations in the Bryansk region opens up new opportunities for attacks on strategic targets.
- Operation «Polyphemus» has weakened Russian air defences.
- Several radar stations in the Bryansk region have been hit.
- A «corridor» has been established for Ukrainian drones.
- There could be strikes on Moscow, St Petersburg and the port of Ust-Luga.
How did they manage to create a «corridor»?»
Operation «Polyphemus» was the result of the systematic destruction of Russian radar systems in the Bryansk region. The military notes that these radars were critical components of Russia’s layered air defence system, controlling the airspace in one of the key sectors. Following their neutralisation, Ukrainian long-range drones were able to penetrate Russian air defences more effectively.
Which targets can now be struck?
Thanks to the «corridor» that has been created, Ukrainian forces can now target strategic sites within Russia. Specifically, this refers to Moscow, Saint Petersburg and the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad Oblast. These locations have become more accessible to Ukrainian drones following damage to Russian radar systems.
Operation «Polyphemus»
Along with their statement confirming the success of the operation, the Ukrainian military released a video showing the scale of the attacks. The Unmanned Systems Forces unit emphasises that the damaged section of the Russian air defence system is of critical importance, and that its restoration will require significant effort and resources. However, there is currently no independent confirmation of the extent of the damage or an assessment of its impact on the Russian air defence system as a whole.
