The Unmanned Systems Forces stated that between 21 and 22 July they had struck 13 energy facilities in occupied Crimea, as well as in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. The Russian company «Krymenergo» reported a second attack on facilities in the Southern Energy District and emergency power cuts in Alupka, Yalta, Alushta and Massandra.
Briefly about the main points
- The Security Service of Ukraine reported that 13 energy facilities had been hit on 21–22 July.
- The list is dominated by substations on the southern coast of Crimea.
- «Krymenergo» has confirmed a second attack on the Southern Energy District.
- Alupka, Yalta, Alushta and Massandra are without electricity.
- In Yalta, there were also reports of disruptions to the water supply and telecommunications.
Which sites were identified as targets?
The SBS report mentions the «Alushta», «Massandra», «Luchiste», «Yalta», «Alupka», «Zorya», «Zimine» and «Gaspra», as well as energy facilities in Shiroke. The «Darsan» substation in Yalta is mentioned separately — according to local monitoring reports, a fire was reported there following the strike.
The list also includes the «Berdyanska» substation in Berdyansk, as well as energy facilities in Olgino in the Kherson region and Bilmak in the Zaporizhzhia region. The practical consequences of the attack are most clearly evident on the southern coast of Crimea.
Emergency power cuts on the South Coast
«Krymenergo» has stated that facilities in the Southern Energy District have «once again» come under drone attack. The company has announced that it is restricting the supply of electricity depending on the operational situation.
Assistant to the occupying head of Crimea Olga Kurlaeva confirmed power cut Alupka, Yalta, Alushta and Massandra. According to her, emergency teams are working on the ground, but no timeframe has been given for the full restoration of the electricity supply.
According to local monitoring reports cited by «Krym.Realii», the «Darsan» substation was on fire in Yalta following the strike, and there were also reports of a fire at the «Massandra» substation. In Alushta, outbreaks of fire were reported near the «Luchiste» substation. The publication noted that it was unable to independently verify all these reports given the current war situation.
The disruptions affected water and telecoms services
In Yalta, the power cut was accompanied by disruptions to the water supply and communications. According to local monitoring reports, the power went out in the city at around 03:30; in Alushta, it went out following explosions at around 00:30.
These consequences highlight how essential a stable local electricity supply is for day-to-day public services. The occupying authorities have linked the pace of restoration to the operational situation.
Campaign against the distribution network
The current attack is part of the operation SBS «Crimean circuit breaker off». In a statement by the commander of the SBS Roberta Brovdi On 20 July, the figure stood at 103 power substations affected since the start of the month. In mid-July, the SBS also claimed regarding the damage to the power transmission point on the Kuban–Crimea power bridge.
The new list indicates that the campaign covers not just a single settlement, but the distribution network across the peninsula and other occupied territories. However, the total figure of 117 targets stated in the new announcement requires clarification: adding 13 sites to the 103 previously listed gives a total of 116.
