The release has been moved to the autumn release window

Universal has rescheduled the release by around seven months. The studio has not publicly stated the reasons for the postponement. The new release date also differs from the traditional May release window for the first two films in the series: *The Mummy* was released in 1999, and *The Mummy Returns* in 2001.

The project does not yet have a full official name, so the media refer to it as «The Mummy 4». The plot of the film is being kept under wraps.".

The characters from the first films are returning to the cast

Fraser will once again play the adventurer Rick O’Connell, whilst Wise will play the archaeologist Evelyn O’Connell. Oded Fehr will play the Medjai leader Ardeth Bay, who appeared in the first two instalments of the franchise.

Kevin J. O’Connor will reprise his role as Benny Gabor, Rick O’Connell’s former comrade. It has not been revealed how the script will explain this character’s appearance. John Hanna will once again play Jonathan Carnaghan, Evelyn’s brother.

The new cast also includes Michael Johnston, known for the series *Obsession*, and Numan Akar from *Young Sherlock*. The updated cast has been confirmed by *Entertainment Weekly*.

The film is directed by Radio Silence

The film was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from the production company Radio Silence. They previously worked on *I’m Going to Look for You*, the 2022 *Scream*, *Scream 6* and *Abigail*. The screenplay was written by David Cogginshall.

Tyler Gillette described the upcoming film as a grand, beautiful and, at the same time, terrifying adventure. According to the directors, Fraser and Wise agreed to join the project after reading the script.

The film will continue the franchise’s storyline with Fraser

The new film will not be a sequel to the 2017 *Mummy* reboot starring Tom Cruise, but will continue the series that began with the 1999 film. Rachel Weisz did not appear in the third instalment — *The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor* —; Evelyn was played by Maria Bello at the time.

The return of five actors from the earlier films reunites most of the original *The Mummy* cast more than two decades on. The official title and plot details of the new film have not yet been revealed.
