On the morning of 28 August, the Ukrainian Defence Forces struck the Yaroslavl «Slavneft-YANOS» oil refinery in Russia. The strike was carried out using Ukrainian FP-1 long-range drones. Following a series of explosions on the site of one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, a massive fire broke out and thick smoke rose above the facility.

On the morning of 28 August, a series of explosions rocked the Russian city of Yaroslavl. An air raid alert was issued in the region at around 05:34, after which local residents began posting videos showing drones flying overhead and heavy smoke in the industrial area.

This is not the first time the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery has come under attack
The latest incident marks yet another attack on the company in 2026.
In particular, On 6 August, the SBU, together with other components of the Defence Forces, had already launched an attack on «Slavneft-YANOS». At the time, the Ukrainian side reported at least six explosions and fires at four locations within the plant.
According to preliminary reports, the attack damaged four crude oil storage tanks, as well as processing facilities ELOU-1 and AVT-3. The Russian authorities also confirmed at the time that the fuel tanks had caught fire.
Strikes on Russian oil refineries have become a regular occurrence in recent months. The attacks are already having a significant impact on Russian oil refining and are forcing Moscow to seek additional sources of fuel supplies.
