On 1 October, the American band Metallica kicked off their ‘Life Burns Faster’ residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas, becoming the first metal band to perform at the venue. The series consists of 24 concerts and will conclude on 13 March 2027. For the production, the musicians utilised the venue’s panoramic indoor LED screen and specially created visual effects.

Briefly about the main points

  • Metallica became the first metal band to perform at The Sphere.
  • The original programme of eight dates has been extended due to demand.
  • The first evening saw …And Justice for All return to the set for the first time since 2014.
  • The complex’s screen covers a significant part of the hall and has a resolution of 16K × 16K.

The staging and songs from the first evening

The visuals were adapted to the Sphere venue: animated cityscapes, fire and imagery linked to the band’s album covers appeared around the stage. The opening set included, amongst others, ‘Battery’, ‘Creeping Death’, ‘Nothing Else Matters’, ‘Ride the Lightning’, ‘Seek & Destroy’ and ‘Master of Puppets’. ‘…And Justice for All’ returned to the set list for the first time since 2014.

The screen and surround sound create a show that envelops the auditorium

Internal LED screen Sphere has an area of around 160,000 square feet — over 14,800 square metres — and a resolution of 16K × 16K. It envelops a significant portion of the auditorium, creating a panoramic image for the audience. The visual experience is complemented by the Sphere Immersive Sound spatial audio system, meaning that the production is staged not only around the stage but throughout the entire auditorium.

How the concert weekend schedule is organised

To begin with Metallica She announced eight shows in October, but later added more dates due to popular demand. The October concerts are scheduled for the 8th, 10th, 15th, 17th, 22nd, 24th, 29th and 31st; after a break, the tour will resume in 2027. The band will play on Thursdays and Saturdays under the ‘No Repeat Weekends’ principle: songs from the first night will not be repeated on the second. Metallica previously used this format during the M72 World Tour.
