Russia has once again attacked Kyiv with high-speed missiles

On the afternoon of 10 October, explosions were heard in Kyiv during yet another Russian missile attack. According to monitoring channels, the Russian military may have used four r3M22 «Zircon» missiles», which have high flight speeds and pose a serious threat to air defence systems.

Earlier reports suggest that the missiles may have been aimed at energy infrastructure sites in the capital. However, details regarding the specific target, the exact number of missiles launched and the effectiveness of the air defence system require confirmation from the Ukrainian Air Force.

According to the latest operational reports, the targets under attack were not hit. However, falling debris from the intercepted missiles caused damage to residential buildings in Kyiv.

In Obolon, rocket debris struck a restaurant

Mayor of the city Vitali Klitschko reported two locations where rocket debris had fallen in the Obolon district of the capital. At one of the sites, debris from the downed rocket struck the “Desant” restaurant building. Emergency services found four people injured, one of whom is in a serious condition. A fire broke out at the site of the impact.

At another location, rocket fragments fell into the courtyard of a residential building. Details regarding the extent of the damage, any fires and casualties are currently being ascertained.

Even after a missile has been successfully intercepted, large fragments of it may still pose a danger to people, vehicles and buildings. Unexploded ordnance remains particularly dangerous, so it is forbidden to approach the debris.

The attack took place against a backdrop of power cuts in the capital

A new missile attack took place on the day that Kyiv had already faced serious problems in the power system. This morning, damage to a power facility in the Kyiv region led to a deterioration in the capital’s electricity supply, as well as disruptions to the water supply and public transport services.

The Kyiv Metro temporarily suspended train services due to a power cut from external power supply centres. Service on all three lines was subsequently resumed, albeit with longer intervals between trains. Restrictions were also in place on certain tram routes.

Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the run-up to the heating season. Such attacks threaten the stable operation of the electricity, water and heating supply systems on which the daily lives of millions of people depend.

The final results of the latest missile strike and the number of targets destroyed are to be confirmed by the Ukrainian Air Force.
