Searches carried out at the offices of the SBU’s internal security leadership
On Wednesday, 4 November, detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) carried out searches at the home of the head of the Main Directorate for Internal Security of the Security Service of Ukraine Anton Kravchuk. This was reported by «Ukrainska Pravda», citing sources within the law enforcement agencies.
Kravchuk heads the unit responsible for the internal security of the secret service. His name, like that of the general, Serhiy Duka, as previously mentioned in reports on operations carried out by the security services against anti-corruption bodies.
At present, the NABU has not specified the criminal proceedings in connection with which the searches are being carried out, nor the procedural status of the SBU officials. No official announcement has been made regarding the notification of the charges against them.
NABU reported that weapons were brandished during a search
Early on the morning of 4 November, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau reported an incident that occurred during investigative proceedings authorised by the High Anti-Corruption Court.
According to the bureau, a senior SBU official refused to allow detectives onto the premises being searched and threatened to use a firearm. In addition, special forces from the Security Service arrived at the scene.
The NABU described such actions as unacceptable, emphasising that they hinder the detectives’ ability to carry out their lawful procedural duties.
According to sources at «Ukrainska Pravda», the official referred to in the bureau’s statement is SBU General Serhiy Duka, First Deputy Head of the Department for the Protection of National Statehood. His name is not officially mentioned in the NABU statement.
The standoff between law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies
Current searches are taking place against the backdrop of a long-running conflict between certain parts of the law enforcement system and independent anti-corruption bodies.
In July 2025, the SBU and the Office of the Prosecutor General carried out large-scale investigative operations targeting NABU staff. At the time, the security services explained their actions as part of an investigation into possible Russian influence and other offences. The Anti-Corruption Bureau, for its part, reported that searches had been carried out without court warrants and that pressure had been exerted on its staff.
The standoff continued into 2026. In September, NABU detectives carried out searches at the Office of the Prosecutor General as part of an investigation into the activities of a criminal organisation suspected of receiving unlawful benefits from fraudulent call centres.
The searches on 4 November marked a new chapter in the tense relations between the law enforcement agencies. However, there has been no official confirmation that the current investigative actions are directly linked to previous conflicts between the NABU and the SBU.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has promised to release further information about the circumstances surrounding the searches. At the time the first reports emerged, the SBU had not issued a public statement regarding the alleged threats involving firearms.
