«The »peace plan" for Ukraine provides for 10-year security guarantees similar to NATO Article 5
Publications. Axios reports that the draft «peace plan» for Ukraine provides for large-scale security guarantees that will operate on a principle similar to Article 5 of NATO. This effectively means that an attack on Ukraine would be seen as an attack on the entire transatlantic community.
Details of the offer
According to Axios, the security guarantees are set for a period of 10 years with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement of the parties.
In the event of aggression against Ukraine, Western countries undertake to provide an immediate and coordinated response - political, military and economic.
Control over the implementation of the guarantees will be ensured by joint monitoring commission, led by European partners with the participation of the United States. The Commission will assess compliance with commitments and coordinate actions in the event of threats.
Context.
The plan is being developed against the backdrop of ongoing diplomatic consultations between Ukraine, the US and European allies. The idea is to create a transitional security model that guarantees Ukraine's stability and protection until it fully integrates into Euro-Atlantic structures.
