Call centre that defrauded more than 30 investors of cryptocurrency and stocks exposed in Kyiv

Law enforcement officers exposed a call centre in Kyiv that fraudulently defrauded more than 30 investors, offering earnings on cryptocurrencies and stocks.

According to the police, the offenders set up an office at 20 workplaces, where managers called potential investors and convinced them to invest.

How the scheme worked

Managers received from victims remote access to their computers, and then demonstrated fictitious profits supposedly from successful investments.

After people made transfers, the funds were transferred to controlled crypto wallets, where they were immediately converted into cash through exchange offices.


What the police seized

During the searches, law enforcement officers found and seized the items:

  • over 1.4 million USD,

  • UAH 5.8 million,

  • 17 thousand euros,

  • equipment, server hardware and documentation.


Responsibility

The defendants in the case face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property for large-scale fraud and organisation of a criminal group.
