No water, no electricity, no heating: Kyiv's left bank heavily damaged after Russian night attack
As a result of a massive nighttime attack by Russian troops on the energy and housing infrastructure of the capital, the left bank of Kyiv was hit hardest. As of the morning, tens of thousands of residents are without water, electricity and heating.
Scale of outages
According to official data from city services, 5,635 multi-storey residential buildings are without heat supply. At the same time, almost 80% of them are houses where heating was restored only after 9 January, after the previous strikes on the power grid.
In some areas of the left bank, there are also interruptions in water and electricity supply, which significantly hampers the operation of social infrastructure, transport and medical facilities.
Work of emergency services
Emergency crews of Kyivteploenergo, power engineers and rescuers are working in an intensified mode. Priority is being given to critical infrastructure facilities, such as hospitals, shelters, heating and water supply points.
KMWA notes that restoration work is ongoing around the clock, but the timeframe for the full return of heat depends on the level of damage and the security situation.
Context.
Russia has been systematically targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure during the cold snap, trying to create a humanitarian crisis and pressure on the civilian population. Kyiv has been repeatedly targeted by massive drone and missile attacks this winter.
