Orban writes to Zelensky via Druzhba and accuses Ukraine of «dragging him into war»
Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban sent a letter to the President of Ukraine To Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in which he accused Kyiv of allegedly trying to drag Budapest into the war and criticised the situation around the Druzhba oil pipeline.
In his address, Orban said that over the past four years, Ukraine has allegedly been working to force Hungary to enter a war with Russia.
Details of the case
According to the Hungarian prime minister, Kyiv is receiving support from Brussels and the Hungarian opposition, while putting pressure on Budapest on energy issues.
Orban also claims that Ukraine has «blocked» the Druzhba pipeline, which he says is critical to Hungary's energy supply.
«Your actions are contrary to Hungary's interests and threaten the safe and affordable energy supply to Hungarian families,» the letter reads.
The Prime Minister stressed that Hungary sympathises with the Ukrainian people, but does not want to participate in the war and finance the war effort.
Context.
Tensions between Kyiv and Budapest have long been high over energy and political issues, as well as Hungary's position on Russia's war against Ukraine.
The Druzhba pipeline remains one of the key routes for Russian oil supplies to Central European countries, including Hungary.
