The talks in Abu Dhabi were preceded by consultations in Brussels

In early November, the European Commission organised talks involving representatives from Ukraine, the US, France, Germany, the UK, NATO and the World Bank.

The participants discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, the future European security architecture and economic mechanisms for post-war reconstruction. Separate consultations also took place within the NATO framework.

These meetings took place ahead of the planned round of talks in Abu Dhabi, which is set to be the latest attempt to resume direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, with the US acting as mediator.

The previous round of US-Ukrainian-Russian talks took place in February 2026. Since then, the open trilateral format has effectively been on hold, whilst the positions of Kyiv and Moscow regarding the terms of a possible peaceful settlement continue to differ significantly.
