China and Russia: a close military partnership
An investigation carried out jointly by The Insider, Der Spiegel and Le Monde has revealed the extent of military-technical cooperation between China and Russia. Documents obtained by journalists show that Beijing has been actively supplying Moscow with advanced military technology. Russia, in turn, has used this technology during the hostilities in Ukraine.
«This cooperation poses a serious threat to European security,» said German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful.
What China has provided
The documents outline five key areas of cooperation: air defence systems, autonomous munitions, space technology, armoured vehicles and aviation. Particular attention was paid to new air defence systems capable of intercepting ballistic and hypersonic missiles.
Ukraine as a testing ground
Russia not only acquired technology, but also used the war in Ukraine as a testing ground for it. This included drones, artificial intelligence-based control systems and new algorithms for coordinating drones. China provided manufacturing capacity and electronic components.
Starlink in the spotlight
One specific point of discussion between the parties concerned countermeasures against the satellite network Starlink. The documents refer to a plan to form a coalition to curb its development and to use cyber tools against the network.
Europe's reaction
After publications Investigation: European partners have expressed concern. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful emphasised that any support for Russia contributes to the continuation of the war and leads to further casualties.
