Warner Bros. has unveiled the first teaser «Gremlins 3» and announced a new release date — 6 October 2028. The sequel will be directed by Chris Columbus, who wrote the screenplay for the original film. However, audiences will have to wait a little longer: the film was previously scheduled for release in November 2027.
What was shown in the «Gremlins 3» teaser»
In a short clip, lasting about 11 seconds, Gizmo makes an appearance: the fluffy character peeks out of a rucksack. The video ends with an announcement that the film will be released in cinemas in October 2028.
The teaser primarily serves as a reminder that a familiar character is returning. It does not reveal any details about the new adventure, so it is too early to draw any conclusions about the plot of the third instalment.
Who is working on the sequel?
The director’s chair will be taken by Chris Columbus, best known for the films *Home Alone* and *Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone*. For him, this marks a return to a story he worked on right at the start of his career.
According to TheWrap, the current version of the script is being written by Anna Marks, based on a draft by Columbus, Zach Lipowski and Adam Stein. Steven Spielberg is involved in the project as an executive producer.
When will «Gremlins 3» be released in cinemas?
The new release date announced is — 6 October 2028. The premiere had previously been scheduled for 19 November 2027, so the wait will continue for almost eleven months.
It will be some time before the third instalment is released 38 years after *Gremlins 2*«. The first film was released in 1984, and its sequel in 1990. Both films were directed by Joe Dante, so the new film will also mark a change of director for the main film series.
In the meantime, the story has also been adapted into an animated series: in 2023, the prequel series *Gremlins: The Secrets of the Mogwai* was launched. The franchise is now set to return to the big screen once again.
