An official and a state registrar who illegally seized recreational land were exposed in Kyiv region. According to the investigation, they organised a scheme to forge documents to transfer the land to private ownership.

Illegal acquisition of recreational land

Law enforcement officers of Kyiv region exposed an official of a local council and a state registrar who organised scheme of illegal seizure of recreational land. We are talking about plots that were supposed to be used for recreation and health improvement.

According to the investigation, the participants in the scheme forged documents to transfer recreational land to private ownership. As a result, some of the valuable plots located in attractive areas of Kyiv region were transferred out of state ownership.

Scheme of document forgery

According to law enforcement, the official and the state registrar acted in collusion. They made fictitious decisions of a local government body and entered false data into the state register of real rights to immovable property.

In this way, the recreational land was granted the status of private property, which allowed the offenders to dispose of it at their own discretion. The investigation is checking the involvement of other persons in this scheme.

Law enforcement response and consequences

Law enforcement officers have already served the offenders notices of suspicion under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions are ongoing to establish all the circumstances and return the illegally alienated land to state ownership.

If found guilty, the suspects face criminal liability, including imprisonment and compensation for damages to the state. Law enforcement officials stress the need to strengthen control over the disposal of recreational land.

Why it matters

Recreational lands are of strategic importance for tourism development, conservation of natural resources and ensuring quality recreation for citizens. Their illegal alienation creates risks to environmental safety and violates the rights of the community.

The exposure of such schemes promotes transparency in land relations and prevents abuse by officials. The return of recreational land to state ownership will help preserve it for public use and regional development.
