Ukraine's cyber police have warned that publishing memes with teachers or classmates may result in criminal liability. Such actions are considered cyberbullying, even if they are anonymous.

Cyberbullying: definition and consequences

Cyberpolice notes that offensive photos, videos, comments or memes about teachers or classmates are an offence. Sharing such content on social media or messengers is classified as cyberbullying.

Anonymity on the Internet does not exempt users from liability. Law enforcement officers can identify you even if you use fake accounts.

Types of liability

Cyberbullying is subject to administrative or criminal liability. In some cases, the parents of the minor offender may be punished.

If the person who distributed the meme or offensive content is under 16 years of age, their parents or guardians are responsible.

What to do in case of cyberbullying

Cyberpolice recommends keeping evidence of cyberbullying: take screenshots, save links to posts or messages. This will help during the proceedings.

Victims can complain about the content on the social network, notify their parents or contact the police by calling 102 or 112.
