All the defendants in the case a notice of suspicion was served under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - This is one of the most severe articles on bribery in public authorities.

Who exactly are the suspects

Possible consequences for the system

The defendants are charged with violations under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for imprisonment for a term of 8 to 12 years with confiscation of property. Such actions by the police leadership could lead to large-scale personnel changes and increased control over the activities of law enforcement agencies on the ground.

The investigation is ongoing and further details on the circumstances of the detention and the amount of the bribe allegedly received by the suspects are expected to be made public in the near future.

Why it matters

High-profile detentions in the leadership of the National Police can significantly affect public confidence in the law enforcement system. Such cases demonstrate the readiness of the state to respond to corruption even at the highest levels of power and may also be the beginning of large-scale reforms in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
