On the night of 24 August, Russia and the temporarily occupied Crimea came under a large-scale drone attack. Explosions and fires were reported in the Rostov Region and on the peninsula. According to monitoring sources citing satellite imagery, military equipment storage facilities were on fire in the Kamensk-Shakhtinsky district, in Crimea — the «Zakhidno-Krymska» substation and the area around the «Dzhankoy» military airfield. A fire has also been reported at the «Kazacha» wind farm.
The Russian authorities have confirmed the scale of the overnight attack on the Rostov Region. According to Governor Yuriy Slyusar, the towns of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Gukovo, Novoshakhtinsk, Shakhty and 14 districts in the region were targeted. The Russian side claimed that over 120 UAVs had allegedly been destroyed.

Reports of fires at military facilities have emerged in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky
Kamensk-Shakhtinsky came under attack from UAVs during the night. Russian monitoring sources recorded drones in the vicinity of the town and air defence activity, and following the strikes, there were power cuts in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky.
The «Crimean Wind» monitoring group, citing satellite data, reported fires near Military Equipment and Property Storage Base No. 335, as well as the territories the 91st Central Reserve Base for Motor Vehicles — Military Unit 48670.
The existence of such a military facility near Kamensk-Shakhtinsky is confirmed by open sources. The 91st Central Reserve Base for Motor Vehicles is listed as military unit 48670, whilst Russian court documents contain details of deliveries of motor vehicles and diesel fuel to that location.
This is not the first serious attack on the military-industrial infrastructure in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky this August. On 16 August, the Ukrainian Defence Forces struck a local «Kamensky Works», which produces solid rocket fuel. The General Staff later confirmed that two of its workshops had been destroyed and four damaged.
A key 330 kV substation caught fire in Crimea
A series of explosions was also heard in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Satellite data recorded a fire at the 330 kV «Zakhidno-Krymska» substation in the Saki district, reports Suspilne Krym, citing monitoring data.
This refers to a major facility within the peninsula’s main power grid. Official Russian documents confirm that «Western Crimea» is a class 330 kV.
A high-voltage power line runs past it «Western Crimea – Sevastopol», 92 km long. Its commissioning has made it possible to establish a key part of the peninsula’s ring-shaped power supply network, which connects the main power hubs in Crimea.
The extent of the damage to the substation may therefore have implications not only for the local electricity supply but also for power flows between the central and western parts of the occupied peninsula. The exact condition of the equipment is currently unknown.
A fire was reported at the Dzhankoy military airfield«
Satellites have detected another fire in the area the «Dzhankoy» military airfield». According to the monitoring group, the fire broke out in the area where aircraft are parked. Suspilne has confirmed the presence of satellite imagery showing signs of a fire on the grounds of the military airfield on the night of 24 August.
The exact consequences, including possible damage to aircraft or other equipment, have not yet been confirmed.
Dzhankoy has recently been a regular target of Ukrainian strikes. The day before, the General Staff reported strikes in the area around the town logistics depots and maintenance units of the Russian armed forces.
A fire has been reported at the «Kazacha» wind farm in the Rostov Region»
According to satellite data from «Crimean Wind», a large fire has also been observed in the territory of the «Kazacha» wind farm in the Rostov Oblast. The monitoring data indicates that thermal anomalies cover a significant part of the site’s territory.
«Kazacha» is one of the largest wind farms in the region. Its installed capacity is approximately 100.8 MW, the complex comprises 24 wind turbines.
However, the exact nature of the fire and the extent of the damage to the power equipment have not yet been independently confirmed.
One of the largest night-time attacks on the Rostov Region
The Russian authorities themselves have described the night-time attack as exceptionally large-scale. According to their account, four towns and 14 districts in the Rostov Oblast were targeted, including Kamensky, Krasnosulinsky, Millerovsky and Tarasovsky.
At the same time, as of this morning, there has been no official statement from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine regarding any of the targets listed. Information regarding the military bases near Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, the «Kazacha» wind farm, and the exact location of the fire at Dzhankoy airfield is currently based primarily on the analysis of satellite imagery by monitoring projects.
The night of 24 August, however, continued the trend of recent weeks: the following are coming under attack simultaneously military logistics, aviation and energy infrastructure of the Russian Federation and occupied Crimea.
