The number of people injured in last night’s Russian strike on Kharkiv has risen to 35. Among them are ten children. A guided aerial bomb struck a high-rise residential block in the Saltivskyi district and destroyed part of the building. Search and rescue operations have now been completed – no people were found trapped under the rubble.

A cab hit a high-rise block in Saltivka
The Russian attack on Kharkiv took place at around 4 am on 28 September. The Kyiv and Saltiv districts of the city came under fire from guided aerial bombs. The greatest damage was recorded in the Saltivskyi district. One of the munitions struck a block of flats. According to regional authorities, the strike hit the second floor, resulting in the destruction of the structures on two floors.
Photographs from the scene of the attack show smashed windows, damaged flats and the building’s façade. Debris from the building was scattered around the high-rise block.
The number of casualties rose throughout the morning
Immediately after the attack, only a few casualties were reported, but residents continued to seek medical attention throughout the morning. Initially, two people were reported to have been injured; later, the figures rose to 8, 11, 15, 22 and 29. At around 11:00 Mayor of Kharkiv Igor Terekhov reported on 35 people affected. Among them 10 children.
Some of the victims received treatment at the scene. In the hours following the attack, there were also reports of children being hospitalised; however, the final details regarding the condition of all 35 people are still being clarified.
No one was found under the rubble
After the strike, rescue workers inspected the damaged building and cleared the rubble. There was a risk that residents might still be inside.
As of the morning The search and rescue operations have been completed. No people were found under the rubble. Utility and emergency services remain at the scene. They are clearing up the aftermath of the blast and inspecting the damaged structures.
In addition to the Saltivskyi district, Russian guided bombs struck the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv overnight. Several residential buildings were damaged as a result of the attack.
