An Odessa jeweller is to stand trial for selling counterfeit jewellery under the guise of international brands

The scheme for the manufacture and sale of counterfeit goods

In early 2025, a jeweller from Odesa set up his own workshop, where he crafted rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants, necklaces and chains that outwardly imitated the products of two world-renowned jewellery houses. To sell the items, he enlisted the help of an accomplice, who took delivery of the finished jewellery, kept track of it and sold it through a jewellery shop, marketing it as items similar to those produced by global brands.

What the police seized

During the searches, law enforcement officers seized 66 items of jewellery bearing an unauthorised trademark and 52 items that replicated the designs of another world-renowned jewellery house. According to the findings of forensic experts, the Swiss owner of the rights to the relevant brands suffered losses of almost 30 million hryvnias.

The case has been referred to court

Prosecutors from the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office have submitted an indictment to the court. The defendants are accused of the unlawful use of a trade mark and the copying of jewellery designs, committed by a group of individuals acting in concert. At the same time, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine People are presumed innocent until their guilt has been proven in court.
