Today, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, reported on the investigation into the attack on people in Kyiv and the inaction of patrol police. Criminal proceedings have been opened, and the police are undergoing a review of their actions and an internal investigation.
Investigation of the attack and police actions
Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Igor Klimenko today delivered a report on the attack on people in Kyiv. He said that criminal proceedings have already been opened over the the inaction of two patrol policemen, who were at the scene of the crime, but did not stop the attacker and fled the scene.
The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case. A full review of the work of the patrol officers, who should have acted in accordance with protocols in such circumstances, is planned.
Coordination of law enforcement agencies
The investigation of the circumstances of the attack, as well as verification of all the facts regarding the attacker's identity, condition and receipt of weapons, are being conducted jointly by the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine.
The Minister of Internal Affairs noted that the results of the inspection will be used to make personnel conclusions across the entire police vertical. It is also planned to revise the protocols for responding to such incidents, as well as the selection and training of patrol officers.
Victims and medical care
Eight people who were injured in the attack are currently in hospital. One person remains in extremely serious condition. All victims are being provided with the necessary medical care.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that it is particularly painful to lose people in a peaceful city during a war and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

Minister Klymenko emphasised the need for a complete review of the police response to emergencies. All those involved in the incident will be checked, and the results of the investigation will influence personnel decisions in law enforcement agencies.
