The Polish parliament is considering a bill that would allow the deportation of Ukrainians for two administrative offences within two years. The list of offences includes minor misdemeanours such as speeding or parking.
Draft law on deportation
The Polish government has presented a bill that provides for the deportation of Ukrainian citizens after two administrative offences within two years.
Violations include speeding, improper parking, not wearing a seatbelt, crossing the road in the wrong place, making noise at night, littering the streets, drinking alcohol in prohibited areas, walking a dog without a leash, not cleaning up after animals, petty theft and driving without a ticket.
Reasons for the initiative
According to the authors of the draft law, the goal is to strengthen public order and reduce the number of violations among foreigners.
The explanatory note states that the number of minor offences committed by citizens of other countries, including Ukraine, has recently increased.
Reaction of the public and experts
Ukrainian human rights activists and migration organisations have expressed concern about the new draft law.
Experts emphasise that such measures could lead to mass deportations and complicate the integration of Ukrainians into Polish society.
Next steps
The draft law is currently under consideration in parliament. It is expected to be voted on in the coming weeks.
If passed, the law will come into force after its official publication.
