The underground organisation «Black Spark» announced that it had carried out a large-scale sabotage operation at a factory in the special economic zone «Alabuga» (Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation), where the «Geran-2» and «Geranium-3». According to representatives of the organisation, Ukrainian agents had been working within the production facility for several months and had managed to obtain important information about the company’s operations.
In a widely circulated statement, «Black Spark» reported that its members had allegedly been working for several months at a factory producing Russian attack drones. According to them, during this time they managed to obtain a database of the company’s employees, gather information about their relatives and places of residence, identify the supply chains for components, and obtain other internal production data.
Surprises in drone races
The most sensational claim was that, whilst the final batches of drones were being assembled, covert modifications had allegedly been made to them. «Black Spark» claims that, as a result, certain drones may explode whilst being prepared for launch or immediately upon take-off. The organisation has not released any technical details or evidence to support these claims.
What is known about «Alabuga»?»
The «Alabuga» Special Economic Zone in Tatarstan is one of the main centres for the production of Russian «Geran» series attack drones, which are based on the Iranian Shahed models. The facility has repeatedly been the target of drone attacks and reports of sabotage. If reports of an intrusion into the production facility and possible sabotage are confirmed, this could indicate serious security issues at one of Russia’s key enterprises supplying the army with attack UAVs. However, as of now, the claims made by the underground organisation have not been independently verified.
