The Ukrainian FP-7 ballistic missile has completed two of the three test phases and could be deployed within a few weeks. This was announced by Iryna Terekh, Chief Executive of Fire Point, at the MSPO 2026 defence exhibition in Poland. The company estimates the missile’s range at up to 300 kilometres, depending on its warhead.

The final stage before deployment

Terekh provided an update on the programme’s progress during MSPO 2026. The first stage involves ground-based and laboratory tests of individual systems, including the engine, navigation systems and other equipment. Flight tests are then carried out.

The final stage involves military trials and actual deployment as part of the codification process. It is only after this stage that the missile is to be put into operational service.

Specifications and design of the FP-7

Fire Point positions itself as FP-7 as a tactical ballistic missile for striking targets behind enemy lines. In March, the company’s chief designer, Denis Shtilerman, spoke of a range of up to 300 kilometres, depending on the weight of the warhead. In August, Terekh also cited a range of up to 300 kilometres and a warhead weight of around 200 kilograms.

According to the developers, the FP-7’s aerodynamic design and control principles are based on the concept of the Soviet 48N6 anti-aircraft missile, which Russia uses in its S-400 systems. At the same time, Fire Point claims to have a different guidance system and its own flight control equipment.

The FP-7’s airframe is made from composite materials, which, according to the company, reduces its weight and increases its range. The missile is equipped with a solid-fuelled engine and is launched from the ground.

The FP-9 is being tested for a significantly greater range

At the same time, Fire Point is carrying out flight tests FP-9 — a long-range ballistic missile with a claimed range of over 800 kilometres. This range potentially expands the capability to strike distant targets on Russian territory.

Terekh explained that it is difficult to carry out a full cycle of long-range trials within Ukraine due to a lack of safe space. The company acknowledges that testing of the FP-9 may have to begin directly against the enemy.

According to the previously announced Fire Point plan, the missile, with a range of around 800–850 kilometres, is due to be ready for operational use by the end of 2026.

Fire Point’s statement and expectations regarding its first deployment

In August, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that the first combat use of a Ukrainian ballistic missile could take place in the autumn of 2026. At the same time, he stressed that it was too early to talk about the widespread use of such missiles.

Fire Point describes the FP-7 as a cheaper alternative to the American ATACMS. The company points out that manufacturing the weapon in Ukraine means it is less dependent on its partners’ political restrictions regarding the use of supplied weaponry.
