Filming of the television adaptation Far Cry have officially begun. The series is being produced by FX in collaboration with Ubisoft Film & Television, and one of the project’s key writers is Noah Ghouli, best known for the TV series *Fargo* and *Alien: Earth*. The start of production was announced on 14 September. The new adaptation will not be a direct retelling of the plot of one of the *Far Cry* games. The creators have chosen anthology format: Each season will feature a new setting, a separate storyline and a different cast of characters — following the same principle on which the Ubisoft game series is based.

The creator of the «Fargo» series is working on Far Cry»
One of the co-creators and executive producers of the Far Cry TV series is Noah Ghouli. He is best known as the creator of the television anthology series *Fargo*, as well as the series *Legion* and *Alien: Earth*.
Alongside this, the project creates Rob Mac, best known for *It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia* and *Mythic Quest*. He will also play one of the roles in the upcoming series.
Gowley had previously explained that it was the anthology-style nature of Far Cry that appealed to him. Each game transports players to a new location, introduces them to different protagonists and antagonists, whilst retaining the recognisable atmosphere of chaos, survival and the struggle for power.
The creators plan to apply the same principle to a television format, rather than simply adapting the storyline of *Far Cry 3*, *Far Cry 4* or any other specific instalment for the screen.
The series will star Steve Buscemi and Lizzie Kaplan
The following have already joined the cast: Steve Buscemi, Lizzie Kaplan and Rob Mac.
In July, Ubisoft officially confirmed Buscemi’s involvement. The actor is known for *The Underground Empire*, *Fargo*, *The Big Lebowski* and *Reservoir Dogs*. No details about his character have been revealed as yet.
Lizzie Kaplan, known for *Masters of Sex*, *Mean Girls* and *Fleishman Is in Trouble*, will play one of the leading roles alongside Rob Mack.
FX is keeping the plot details of the first season under wraps for the time being.
Part of Far Cry is being filmed in Spain
Preparations for the large-scale scenes began in Spain Malaga. The local publication SUR reported on work being carried out on the site of the former Cruz del Humilladero provincial prison, where rehearsals and pyrotechnic tests were being conducted.
Scenes featuring explosions, smoke and debris were tested on set, in keeping with Far Cry’s signature blend of action and large-scale combat sequences.
Previously, production bases had also indicated London as one of the project’s locations.
Each season will tell a new story
FX and Ubisoft have decided to bring one of the key features of the gaming franchise to television.
In various instalments of Far Cry, the action took place on tropical islands, in the Himalayas, Africa, Montana in the US and a fictional Caribbean country. Each game, in fact, began a new story.
The TV series will work in the same way: A new season — a new setting, a new storyline and new characters. This will allow creators to avoid being tied to a specific game and to create original stories set in the Far Cry universe.
Following its premiere, the series will be broadcast on FX, will be available on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ in international markets. The release date for the first series has not yet been announced.
