On the night of On 17 September, Russian forces attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles. As of 08:00, the number of casualties had risen to 16 people, including two children — a 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy. Damage was reported in several areas of the capital: windows were smashed in residential buildings, and a school, a sixth-form college, office and warehouse premises, cars and petrol stations were affected.

There are already 16 casualties in Kyiv
Initial reports from the city authorities during the night mentioned four people who had been injured. The number subsequently rose to 12, and by this morning the Kyiv Public Prosecutor’s Office and the mayor, Vitali Klitschko, had reported that 16 people injured.
Among the victims are children aged 10 and 12. It was previously reported that some of the injured had been admitted to hospitals in the capital.
As of 08:00, damage to civilian infrastructure had been reported in at least four districts of Kyiv. The blast wave shattered windows in at least five residential buildings; a school and a sixth-form college, cars, an administrative building and the offices of private companies were also damaged, PETROL STATION and warehouses.
Damaged residential buildings and an office
In the Dnipro district, debris fell at several locations. According to preliminary reports, residential buildings and an office have been damaged.
At one of the sites, the blast wave damaged the windows and the façade a three-storey office building, whilst windows were shattered in neighbouring residential buildings. Debris also fell onto the grounds of some warehouses and near a petrol station.
An «US» journalist at the scene also reports damage a 16-storey residential block and an educational establishment situated nearby.
Rescue workers, law enforcement officers, medical staff and utility services are working at the scene.
A destroyed warehouse and damaged educational establishments
In the Solomyanskyi district, as a result of the attack, according to preliminary reports, a derelict warehouse building. Earlier, the city authorities had also reported damage to non-residential premises in other parts of the capital.
The Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office reported that, overall, the following were damaged as a result of the shockwave school and sixth form college, as well as administrative and commercial property. Destroyed or damaged vehicles.
Following the attack, water supply problems also arose in parts of the capital. Reduced water pressure was recorded on the left bank, as well as in the Solomyanskyi, Holosiivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts.
Kyiv was attacked with ballistic missiles
The Air Force issued a warning overnight about the threat of ballistic missile strikes. A series of explosions then rocked the capital. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, so the number of casualties and the list of damaged sites may change.
