On 23 August and during the night of 24 August, the Ukrainian Defence Forces struck Russian military targets, including those in the temporarily occupied territories. The General Staff confirmed the destruction of two command posts, three areas housing logistics depots and an «ST-68» radar station in Crimea. It was also confirmed that three air targets at the Vityazevo airfield near Anapa had been damaged.

Briefly about the main points

  • Russian military command posts have been hit in the Kherson and Donetsk regions.
  • MTZ depots came under attack in the Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
  • The «ST-68» radar station in Rozdolne, Crimea, has been hit.
  • A Su-33, a MiG-29 and an «Orion» UAV were damaged in Vityazevo.
  • The General Staff has announced that work is continuing for the Russian Federation’s military purposes.

Command posts and areas of responsibility

The Russian forces’ command posts were located in Strilkove, in the Kherson region, and in Staromlynivka, in the Donetsk region, according to the General Staff.

Areas housing logistics depots have been hit in Stepne and Khrustalny in the Luhansk region, as well as near Viktorivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. Such depots are used to stockpile and distribute supplies, equipment, spare parts and other resources required by military units.

The radar station in Rozdolne

The «ST-68» radar station in Rozdolne, in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, was targeted specifically. The station is used as part of the air defence system to detect and track aerial targets and transmit their coordinates to other air defence assets.

The destruction of such a radar could impair the Russian forces’ ability to control the airspace and guide anti-aircraft systems. The General Staff had previously reported the destruction of radar stations of this type in Feodosia and Yevpatoria.

Updated results of the strike on Vityazevo

The General Staff has published updated results of the strikes on the «Vityazevo» airfield near Anapa in the Krasnodar Krai. Following further analysis, damage to Su-33 fighter jets has been confirmed and MiG-29, as well as the «Orion» strike and reconnaissance drone.

The day before, Robert Brovdy, commander of the Unmanned Systems Force, announced strikes against Russian aircraft and radar systems in the Krasnodar Krai, the Rostov Oblast and occupied Crimea. According to him, 14 targets were hit in these three regions at that time.

What capabilities does the «Orion» UAV have?»

«Orion», also known as «Inohodets», is a Russian MALE-class strike and reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, it is capable of remaining airborne for extended periods, conducting reconnaissance and deploying airborne weapons.

The aircraft can be fitted with optoelectronic systems and reconnaissance equipment, as well as carry guided aerial bombs and missiles. The General Staff has stated that operations against key enemy military targets are continuing.
