Explosions and a fire in the Moscow region
On the night of 30 June, the Moscow Region came under a large-scale drone attack. According to the Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin, the attack began at around 4 o’clock in the morning. The Russian authorities, as is customary, stated that air defence systems had been activated, but almost no detailed information regarding the consequences of the strikes has been officially released.
Telegram channel Exilenova+ reported explosions and a large-scale fire in Yegoryevsk. At least two strikes were also recorded in Dubna, raising concerns about possible damage to strategic facilities.
Defence companies could be affected
Dubna is a key centre of the Russian military-industrial complex, home to the «Kronstadt» and «Raduga». The former specialises in the production of attack drones, in particular the «Orion» UAV, whilst «Raduga» manufactures cruise missiles, which are regularly used in the war against Ukraine. There is currently no official confirmation that these facilities have been hit.
Russia claims its air defence systems are operational
The Russian side claims that most of the drones were intercepted by its forces AIR DEFENCE. However, reports from local residents of explosions and fires suggest that some of the drones may have reached their targets. It is currently impossible to independently verify the extent of the damage.
Why it matters
Dubna is one of the key centres of the Russian defence-industrial complex. If reports of strikes on the «Kronstadt» and «Raduga» facilities are confirmed, this could have a significant impact on the production of attack drones and cruise missiles that Russia is using in the war against Ukraine. However, these reports currently require further verification.
