The principle of Ukraine’s sovereignty is one of the fundamental principles of bilateral relations. In the US–Ukraine Strategic Partnership Charter, the parties identified support for sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders as the foundation of their cooperation.
Cooperation in the fields of security and the economy
The Secretary of State also praised the courage, resilience and ingenuity of the Ukrainian people. He specifically stated the US’s commitment to strengthening economic and security ties with Ukraine and its desire to promote peace and prosperity for both nations.
These areas are also provided for in the bilateral security agreement signed in June 2024: in it, the US and Ukraine declared their intention to develop security and economic cooperation, as well as to strengthen Ukraine’s defence-industrial base and its institutional capacity.
